Apple Slices and Autumnal Weather
Well, after saying last week that there was the ‘in-betweeness’ of the seasons, it feels like a massive switch has been flicked and now things feel very definitely autumn like. Funnily enough, people over social media seem to have felt this too and there is a lot of talk of halloween and bonfire nights. I am not quite that far ahead, but I must admit I am a little excited for both of those festivities. My apple haul wasn’t fully used up on last weeks apple turnovers, so not

Breakfast, Picnic or Pudding?
I sometimes get asked for some quick baking ideas, something that can be done simply and that kids can get involved with too. So this week I have made some little fruity pots that could be a scrum breakfast to start the day, or made in jars and taken on a picnic or put into bowls for an easy weekday pudding. This recipe also makes the most of the end of season British berries, which I think, should be celebrated right up to the last minute. There isn’t a lot of baking in thi

Blueberry Haul
There was an abundance of blueberries in the shops this week and as they are in season they didn’t cost the world - hooray. So trotting home with a lot of blueberries in hand, I was thinking of baking something delicious, of course, but also something that kids could join in with whilst they are on their summer holidays. They make a wonderful breakfast treat when they are still warm from the oven. I’ve made a crunchy, topping including cinnamon which give them a lovely spic

Little Hands and Rocky Roads
I have had a lovely week having my 7 year old niece, Sahai, come and visit in Brighton. Along with A LOT of ice-creams (what are Aunties for, if not to be a constant supply of ice cream) we have had a lot of fun crafting, chatting and collecting shells on the beach. We even did this week's blog together (payment in the form of a Mint Chocolate Chip ice-cream) as I have wanted to share recipes this month that little ones can join in with whilst they are on their summer holida

Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches
If you saw last weeks post, you will know I am focusing on kid friendly recipe ideas over the summer holidays. If you give any of the recipes a go please tag me in your photos, as I love seeing them! So keeping in the summer theme I thought it was about time there was some ice-cream fun, and why not throw in some chocolate chip cookies whilst we are at it and make some ice cream cookie sandwiches. The cookies are great for the little peeps to get involved with, what with all

Salted Caramel Puddle Biscuits
Let’s talk about chocolate, roasted hazelnuts and salted caramel and putting them all together into a biscuit! Then you have caramel puddle biscuits. I have shared the recipe to make sea salted caramel in a previous blog on the 23rd December 2016, so you can head back to that to whip some up. It is always worth having a jar of caramel in the fridge for all sorts of treats and this is one of them. If you don’t fancy making this yourself, then you can buy caramel in a tin in

Wimbledon and Eton Mess Swiss Roll
I have been completely glued to Wimbledon over the past couple of weeks, it has been a really good year - I can’t think about Wimbledon without thinking about strawberries and cream. So this weeks inspiration comes in the form of Swiss Roll, partly to honour the glorious strawberry, but also I am backing Roger Federer in the final…and he is Swiss! A Swiss Roll has no fats in, by this I mean no butter or oil. It gets it’s lovely even rise and bouncy texture from whipped eggs

Lemon Polenta Cake Summer Trifle
I came across some beautiful lemons in the shop the other day and have been waiting for an idea to ping into my head on what use them in, then I realised I hadn’t made a lemon polenta cake for ages; its a great one too if you are gluten intolerant as there is no flour used; as long as you also use a gluten free baking powder too as some of them are not gluten free! The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that the heading for this blog also has says summer trifle…indeed it

Summer Pudding for Summer Solstice
Excitingly this week, , the blog turns one! For the past 52 Fridays, I have been sharing seasonally inspired recipes that I have loved making. I wanted to mark the occasion with a dessert, specifically - a summer pudding. We also saw the arrival of Summer Solstice, our longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. Along with the Summer Solstice also came the arrival of the red currants, raspberries, gooseberries and strawberries on the allotment - with all these amazing fruits it

Summer Berries and Pavlovas
The season starts to fade into the warmth of summer and I can feel it changing around me, all the visual clues. Joggers out for a run early in the morning before the heat of the day kicks in, holiday makers wandering along the promenade with ice creams in hand, BBQ’s on the beach and the British berries arriving in the green grocers and supermarkets. One of the many excellent qualities of a pavlova is it’s lightness. In this heat, after an evening meal, I crave something f
